Smt. Shaly Vijayan born in Calicut has been a student
of the world renowned institution "Kalakshetra" and is qualified with a diploma both in Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam from Kerala Kalamandalam. She has Diploma and Post Diploma in Baratanatyam from Kalakshetra also. Started young at age of 5 under Shri Balakrishnan, she is one among the younger generation to have been directly associated with Late Rukmini Devi Arundale. Steadily stood first throughout and later became the tutor in the same institute. Noted for her crisp and precise "Advaus" and subtle nuances of "Abhinaya" Shaly takes major roles in the dance drama productions of her alma matter.
Shaly is currently engaged in teaching Bharatanatyam in Smt. Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts, Kalakshetra Foundation, Chennai.
Has 6 years teaching experince as a dance teacher at the Kalakshetra College of Fine Arts and has also previously conducted classes at her own dance institution in Kerala. Has played major roles in many of Kalakshetra Dance Drama etc. and choreographed many items like Padam, keerthanam, Thillana, Varnam etc.
In India she has done programmes for Kerala Tourism Depatment, Doordarshan Trivandrum, Space Enggs Association Trivandrum, Kerala Fine Arts Society Ernakulam, Ranjini Sabha in Kodungallur, Dweep Moholsav Andaman & Nicobar Island, Swathi Thirunal Sangeetha Sabha Trivandrum, Ugadi Festival in Hyderabad, Sree Chitra Dance and Music Festival in Trivandrum etc.
In Abroad she has toured China and USSR with Kalakshetra, England invited by Sankalpam Dance Company London, Japan invited by INDO Japan Tagore Society, Sri Lanka etc.
