Mattakkara Balachandran was
born in the town of Mattakkara a part of the Kottayam District.
Balachandran studied music with many teachers. He was first singing light music but then decided to switch to Kathakali music. He is now one of the main singers in the southern part of Kerala.
He has performed on many stages through out India. He has visited Italy also.
