Sri Kalamandalam Biju started learning Kathakali at the age
of 8 and got his degree in Kathakali "Vesham" from Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University. He has been involved in Kathakali performances all over India as well as other countries like Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Mexico along with various Kathakali troupes. He has choreographed Tadaka vadham in Tamil, Cherita Singapura in Malay, Lady Spider in Chinese and Engliah story King Lear in Malayalam. He has written a new Kathakali story, "Satyavathiparinayam" in 2008 (under the pen-name "Vanamali") and it has been performed in different stages since then. He has received Vellodi medal and Vallathol scholarship from Kalamandalam.
Currently he is working as Kathakali teacher and Kathakali artist in Bhasker's arts academy, Singapore. He is a versatile artist and can perform any types of characters in perfection especially Paccha, Tadi, and Kari.. He is son of the Kathakali artist Mr Sadanandan Pillai and Mrs. Indira Devi. His wife is Mrs. Maya devi and daughter Ms Gowripriya.
