Sadanam.K.Harikumaran, son of late K.Kumaran (freedom fighter and founder of Sadanam Institutions) and Sarojini Amma, and grand son of Kakkad Karanavappad, whose family Kathakali yogam was latter made into Kerala Kalamandalam, born at Perur village in Palakkad district on 8th of February, 1958.

Took his Kathakali diploma along with his high school studies. Sadanam Balakrishnan and Kizhpadam Kumaran Nair was his Gurus then. Took degree in Zoology from Christ College Irinjalakkuda. He was awarded scholarship by Ministry of Culture India, for higher studies in Kathakali under Padmasree Kizhpadam Kumaran Nair from Gandhi Seva Sadanam Kathakali Academy for two years. Took M.A. in Malayalam as a private candidate from Calicut University.

Worked in Visvabharathi University as a Kathakali professor from 1989 to 1994. Came back to Kerala and joined as a Teacher Educator in G.S.S.T.T.I. He is the Secretary of Sadanam Kathakali Academy now.

Besides being a Kathakali performer he is a Classical vocalist and Kathakali vocalist graded with 'B'high' by All India Radio. He is the disciple of "Sangitha acharya" late Sri C.S.Krishna Iyer.

He has conducted many solo exhibitions of his paintings and sculptures, of some with the financial aid of Kerala Lalitha Kala Academy. Portrait of Kathakali doyen Pattikkamthodi Ramunni Menon made in terracotta was installed at Sadanam that was unveiled by Artist Namboothiri.

Eight of his Kathakali plays compiled and titled 'Kathakali Attakkathakal' is published recently by Mathrubhumi Books with the introduction of Dr.M.Lilavathi.

He has visited and performed in England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Russia (previous U.S.S.R.) Malaysia, Combodia, Vietnam, Laos, Cuba, and Martinique. His wife Vasanthi is an M.A. in music and children Karthikayan and Vighnesvaran are interested in arts.
