Kalamandalam Sreekumar was born on may 21, 1958. His father is K.Balakrishnan Nair and mother is Bhageeradhi Amma.

After passing SSLC, he learned Kathakali from Kerala Kalamandalam for 8 years and passed PG with first class. Apart from his tudy in Kalamandalam he continued learning Kathakali for 5 years. Now he is working in R.L.V. College, Thripunithura as the Head of the Department of Kathakali. Has practiced Kathakali under Eramalloor Balakrishna Menon, Kalamandalam Ramankutty Nair, Kalamandalam Padmanabhan Nair, Kalamandalam Gopi and Kalamandalam Vijayan. His expertise is in "Pacha", "Kathi", "Minukku" (Brahnmanan in Santhanagopalam, Sundara Brahmanan in Rugmini Swayamvaram, etc), and "Pazhuppu" (Balabhadrar in Subhadraharanam, Sivan in Dakshayagam, etc) characters.

Has received A.D. Bolland Gold Medal for Best Student, Vazhenkada Kunchu Nair Smaraka Award, etc. Has performed Kathakali all around Kerala and India and foreign countries like Paris, Itali, Switzerland and England and has participated in the Cultural Tour conducted by India Govt in Calcutta, Tripura etc. and International Festival in Delhi.
